High Side Seeker®
Like its big brother, the MI3 survey tool, the High Side Seeker® is an electronic multishot tool - it operates in the same way as the MI3 with the exception that it has no azimuth sensor.
The High Side Seeker® contains a three-component accelerometer package, so that it can provide dip and gravitational high side (toolface or roll orientation) in all orientations. High side is measured relative to a location mark.
The High Side Seeker® has a variety of applications. For example:
- electronic dip meter.
- high side determination for core orienting work.
- complementing data from other downhole geophysical tools.
- high side determination for legacy survey tools.
The High Side Seeker® can be configured in a number of ways to suit different applications. It is capable of communicating with computers or PDA's over a serial and/or IrDA interface. It can be fitted with a backlit LCD display to show results on-the-fly, in which case user input is through a combination rotary and pushbutton switch. Custom interfaces are also available.
The image below shows the High Side Seeker® displaying an inclination of 88.3 degrees from vertical (oilfield convention) and a toolface of 111.5 degrees.
In addition to operating as a multishot instrument, the High Side Seeker® is also capable of taking an external trigger input. For example, a pressure sensor or impact sensor can be used to trigger a reading which is stored together with a time stamp.
Configuration: Depending on the application, the High Side Seeker® is run with shock absorbers, pressure housings, and/or thermal shields. Icefield Tools supplies the High Side Seeker® as an OEM module. We can provide reference designs for a pressure housing, and are open to customizing the firmware to suit your needs.
